Virus (PFBV) of Geranium

Disease Information

Virus (PFBV)

Symptom sand damage

PFBV infection is limited to Pelargonium species and cultivars. Cultivars vary in susceptibility; PFBV is the most common virus infection of the florist`s geranium (P. x hortorum). The virus is transmitted from geranium to geranium by sap inoculation, contaminated tools, surface contaminated pollen, thrips in the presence of infected pollen, and recirculating nutrient solutions. It is not transmitted by aphids or seed.

Geraniums have been freed of PBFV by heat (35ยบ C) treatment .

There no cures or chemical treatments for plant viruses. Buy culture indexed plants and cuttings. Discard infected material
